(Jan. 19, 2011) The Voorheesville Annual Spelling Bee was held on
Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 12:15 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
Forty-six students participated, ranging from 4th through 8th grade.
Middle School 7th-grade student Olivia Suozzo came in first place. This
is her second time winning the school's bee. She also won two years ago
when she was in 5th grade. Olivia will be representing Voorheesville in
the Capital Region Spelling Bee on February 9, 2011 at Proctor’s Theatre
in Schenectady, NY. The winner of this regional competition will compete
at the National Spelling Bee held in Washington, DC.
Emma Sprotbery, an 8th grader, came in second place and Gabriel
DeFreest-Rondeau, a 7th grader, came in third place.
Some of the challenging words students had to spell were astigmatism,
feloniously, psychiatry, clientele, and incremental.
Congratulations and best of luck to Olivia, as well as all the students
who participated in our Voorheesville Spelling Bee!
