Tennis
court work to include asbestos abatement
Asbestos in the tennis courts? That's not
something a school district normally expects to find, but indeed it is
what Voorheesville officials discovered when they recently tested
samples of the asphalt surface and the layers beneath its
junior/senior high courts.
The 41-year-old tennis courts are scheduled to
undergo major reconstruction this summer as part of the district's
capital project, approved by voters last September. The discovery of
asbestos means that workers will be taking extra precautions in the
removal of the old courts to protect the health of nearby residents as
well as themselves.
On June 29, High School Principal Mark Diefendorf
sent a letter to all surrounding residents describing these
precautions. For more information, contact Mark Diefendorf at 765-3314,
