Outdoor Service Opportunities

Opportunity to earn volunteer hours in Blackbird Paradise Garden at the elementary school. Help with general upkeep, general gardening tasks (no experience necessary), or assist master gardeners with small group activities in the garden working with young children. Earn as many or as few credits as you wish or just lend a hand for fun. Volunteer opportunities are available early spring through fall harvest.  If interested please contact: vvillegarden@gmail.com.

Visitor's welcome box installed in Blackbird Paradise

(May 19, 2010) Many thanks to Mark Whalen, of Whalen Carpentry, LLC (mwhalen1@nycap.rr.com), for making and installing the new guest registration and information box in Blackbird Paradise. The new addition to the school and community garden will house a visitor sign-in and comment book, garden brochures, and volunteer information. Blackbird Paradise is open sunrise to sunset. Garden Project presented "The Great Plate" Wellness Assembly, March 25

(March 31, 2010) Voorheesville Elementary's kindergarten through second grade students were treated to "The Great Plate" assembly on March 25. The assembly featured "The Great Plate" way of eating through 3-D exhibits, presentations on healthy eating habits and "creating" a nutrient-rich meal. » LEARN MORE

Cooking tips and recipes for everything from beets and onions to swiss chard and eggplant are now online, courtesy of Roxbury Farm in Kinderhook, New York.

Volunteers sought for spring

Volunteers are needed to help water, weed, harvest and prepare vegetables for delivery during the spring. No gardening experience is necessary. However, please indicate if you would prefer to work alongside a master gardener or more experienced gardener. Learn more about volunteering.
