Helderbarker writer McKayla-Courtney McGeeney earns
scholarships
(May 7, 2012) Makayla-Courtney McGeeney, a
senior staff writer for The Helderbarker, has been awarded two
journalism related scholarships. The senior at Clayton A. Bouton High
School will receive the Gene Robb Scholarship for Journalism, in honor
of Eugene Robb, founder of the Albany Times Union. It is a $1,500
scholarship. The second scholarship McGeeney will receive is the AD Club
of Albany Scholarship, which is focused more on advertising and
communications, and carries a $3,000 award.
McGeeney is a three-year writer for The Helderbarker. She has written
news, features, sports, and opinion pieces for the paper, as well as
blogging extensively on her own blog, entitled
We’re Just Here Pretending. McGeeney
plans to study Mass Communications at Maryland’s Salisbury University in
the fall.
