Spanish/French, taught by Mrs. Bills and Mrs. Devenpeck

An exploratory program that introduces students to the language and culture through class activities, projects, songs and activities. Basic vocabulary and grammatical structure are introduced. At the end of 6th grade, students are asked to choose either Spanish or French for the continuation of their middle school second language program.

This year, students will be introduced to both French and Spanish. At the end of the year, students will select the language they would like to continue studying throughout grades 7-12. Studying a foreign language can be fun and challenging. Because this class meets every other day, it is important that homework assignments are completed and that language is practiced. Students are encouraged to practice what has been learned with family, friends, and even your pet! The more it’s spoken, the more it’s learned.

For each of the 20 weeks, students are expected to:

  • Listen to the sounds of the language

  • Learn where the language is spoken

  • Have fun imitating and figuring out what is being said

  • Discover similarities and differences between English and French/Spanish

  • Learn about the French, Spanish and Latin American Cultures

Grades will be based on:

  • Participation

  • Homework

  • Quizzes and projects

  • Final exam
