Computer Tools 7, taught by Ms. Wademan

This course builds from the knowledge learned in Computer Tools 6. You learned to type last year and I insist that you use those skills in this class also. In this course, we will learn how to use the programs in the Microsoft Office Suite. If we have time, we will work with Microsoft Access, as well.

The course is project based and you will be graded on the various projects assigned. You will be using the Internet to complete some of these projects. If you cannot use the Internet properly, then you will not be using it in class.

Course Outline:

Unit One: Create and format Word documents
Students will learn how to create one- and two-page reports with the correct margins, fonts and font sizes, line spacing, footnotes and endnotes. Students will also learn how to create newsletters, set up columns, and how to add graphics, tables and bulleted lists.

Unit Two: Solve problems using Excel worksheets
Students will learn how to solve problems by entering data and formulas.

Unit Three: Present ideas and facts in PowerPoint slide shows
Students will learn how to create slide show presentations with lots of different slide layouts, design templates and color schemes. Students will also learn how to add transitions, animations, sound, motion clips and hyperlinks.

Grading Policy:

This class is comprised of four (4) components:

  1. Participation grade: 20%

  2. Responsibility grade: 10%
Each student starts out with a 100, and can lose points for such things as coming to class late or without needed materials, distracting other students from learning, sleeping during class, etc. This system holds each student accountable for his or her own behavior. Students who are responsible for their learning and behavior receive the reward of getting a 100, while those who are not responsible pay the consequence by receiving a grade reflective of this.

  3. Classwork: 60%

  4. Homeplay/Quizzes/Tests: 10%

Communication:

I can be reached through email (Wademan@vcsdk12.org). I will try to respond as soon as possible.
