Sixth Grade Band,
taught by Karen Jendrzejczak
Band 6 meets all year, every other day, during the
school day. Group lessons are given on a rotating basis once in a
six-day cycle. Students are expected to attend six lessons a quarter,
rehearsals and all concerts. The practice expectation is 100 minutes a
week, and lesson material varies according to group ability.
Course Meets:
Period 6 every “P” Day
Objectives:
To continue to improve music reading skills. To achieve a more mature ensemble sound. To learn band music for concert performance.
Supplies Needed:
Instrument, mouthpiece, reeds (if necessary), lesson book, band music, pencil.
Lessons:
Six lessons required each quarter, occurring on a rotating
basis. Students are required to make up missed lessons.
Practice:
Students should be practicing at least 100 minutes a week,
ideally 20 minutes, five out of seven days. Practice sheets are
required and should be signed by parents each week.
Concerts:
Concerts are mandatory – December 21, 2006 and May 25,
2007.
Concert dress:
girls – dress or skirt and blouse;
boys – dress shirt, dress pants, tie, shoes.
Evaluation Method:
Letter grade for the report card calculated as
follows: 60% lesson grade (broken down into 6 ten point categories:
attendance, tone, rhythm, effort, technique and interpretation); and
40% band rehearsal grade (based on being prepared, knowledge of band
music, appropriate attendance, concert attendance)
