Social Studies 6, World History, taught by Mrs. Sheila Lobel

Students will study global history in grade 6, with a concentration on Western Europe and the Middle East. Students will begin with an overview of geography and prehistory. Mesopotamia and the ancient worlds will be covered, including the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Prior to the unit on the Middle Ages, students will be exposed to six major religions of the world.

The Middle Ages unit includes an interactive simulation in which students experience life as a serf, lord, knight, and monk. This unit is followed by a study of the art and culture of the Renaissance. Moving towards modern times, students learn about revolutions that changed the world, and the World Wars.

Sixth graders will complete projects, work cooperatively and use maps. Study skills will be taught including organizational skills and test taking techniques.
