Grade 7 and 8 Band
The goal of the band program is to help develop
comprehensive student musicians. Through understanding the elements of
music, students are better able to appreciate music as an art form.
Studying an instrument and participating in music ensembles give
students a “hands on” approach to learning. At the middle level,
students expand upon musical concepts learned in elementary school as
they continue to perform more challenging and exciting music in band and
lessons.
All band students are expected to follow the
guidelines below:
Rehearsals:
Students are expected to attend all rehearsals and
to be attentive to the directions of the conductor. Band is a
participatory class. Students must have their instrument and music each
class period.
Performances:
Attendance and performance at all concerts is
required unless a student is legally absent from school the day of the
performance.
Concert Dress:
Boys – White dress shirt, black dress slacks,
tie, black socks and shoes.
Girls – White blouse, black skirt (knee length or longer) or
dress slacks, black shoes.
Concert Dates:
December 21, 2006 and May 25, 2007
All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
Lessons:
Lessons provide students with the small group
attention needed to progress on their individual instruments. Lessons
occur on a rotating basis once every six days. Students are required to
attend their lessons and part of their grade is for attendance. Missed
lessons must be made up with the student’s lesson teacher as soon as
possible.
Practice Charts:
Consistent practice is necessary to develop the
skills of playing an instrument. Students are required to fill out
practice sheets as part of their grade. Parents are asked to sign the
sheet each week to monitor their child’s progress.
Grading Criteria:
All students will receive a letter grade each
quarter. The grading system used to evaluate your child’s progress in
the program is as follows:
