Reports to Parents
The purpose of our reporting system is to
establish an effective line of communication between home and school. To
accomplish this, the following systems are used:
Report Cards
Report cards are handed out to students to bring
home every ten weeks. The report card includes a grade in each subject
plus additional comments made by the teacher to explain the student’s
progress during the marking period. Letter grades are used in sixth
grade; number grades are used in seventh and eighth grades. This
provides a transitional year for sixth grade students as they adjust to
the Middle School program and environment. Individual teacher grading
policies are covered at Open House in September. The passing grade is a
D, or 65.
Honor Roll
Students with an average of 84.5 - 89.4 are named to
the Honor Roll. Students with an average of 89.5 and above are named to
the High Honor Roll. An incomplete or failing grade will make a student
ineligible for Honor Roll.
Progress Reports
Progress Reports are sent at the mid-point for each
marking period and contain comments, either commending excellent work or
identifying areas for improvement.
Outstanding Attendance
In order to be eligible for Outstanding Attendance
recognition, a student must have 0 or 1 absence, and no more than 3
tardies and/or excused early days during the year.
Conferences
Conferences with parents are an important part of
the reporting process. A conference may be initiated by the student,
parent, or staff members. Call the Middle School Office to make an
appointment.

State Tests
Eighth grade marks the end of the Intermediate
Standards as stated by the NYS Education Department. There are seven
standard areas and 28 standards.
The plan is to assess student mastery of the Intermediate Standards at
the end of Grade 8. State assessments are mandated in four areas:
English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Testing for
8th grade students occurs mainly over several days in May and June with
the ELA being given earlier. Because of the number of State tests that
are required, 8th grade subjects do not all have full comprehensive
final examinations. More information on this will be presented at Open
House in the fall.
The results of state tests may be figured into students’ grading and
they may be used to assign AIS (academic intervention services) in grade
9.

Parents' Guide to the NYS Testing Program.
Any parents/guardians who want to learn more about
their child's performance on the ELA and Math assessments are encouraged
to contact their child's principal.
