VES First-Ever Wellness Day

On Thursday, June 19, Voorheesville Elementary School was fortunate to host its own Elementary Wellness Day.

Thanks to the VES Wellness Committee (Janet Hakey-Brusgul, Judy Zielinski, Terry Luyckx, Mary Teresa Morgan, Suzanne Paulson, Anne Rappoccio, and Thomas Reardon) students had the opportunity to rotate between three varying workshops, with topics ranging from the art of Fencing to a Heart-Healthy diet.  Thirty-one presenters from our local and Albany-area community volunteered their time and resources to spend the afternoon working with our students.

Kindergarten Registration
2014-2015 School Year

(Dec. 13, 2013) Parents are asked to call Ms. Parker at the Voorheesville Elementary School (765-2382 ext. 504) or e-mail cparker@voorheesville.org if you have a child who will be entering Kindergarten in September of 2014.

Children must be five years of age on or before December 1, 2014 to register.

There will be a parents only information meeting on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at 7:00 p.m.

Kindergarten registration and screening process will be explained at that time.  You will also sign you child up for the Kindergarten Screening that will take place on Tuesday, May 13 and Wednesday, May 14, 2014.

K-Kids Collect Pajamas

(Jan. 21, 2014) Our very own elementary service club, K-Kids successfully collected over 200 pairs of new pajamas, which will be donated to needy families through our Kiwanis club sponsor.  It is very exciting to have observed elementary students organize, implement, collect, and promote such a giving opportunity, especially one which aligns immediately with the mission of Kiwanis International.

K-5 End-of Year Wellness Day

(Jan. 21, 2014) The District Wellness Committee is in full swing to organize a K-5 wellness day event, which mirrors the success of the middle/high school experiences of students last year.  The committee hopes to bring a keynote anti-bullying speaker to the entire elementary population in March, followed by the use of the afternoon of field day in June to allow students, as a class, to rotate through and experience three different workshops pertaining to health, wellness, and physical activity.  The free resources of our families and the community are being extrapolated.

Holiday Sing-A-Long

(Jan. 21, 2014) As part of our tradition, our final day of school prior to break consisted of a holiday sing-a-long, which not only allowed our Kindergarten students to provide an encore performance of their holiday show, but also for our building to gather and present a check for over $1,000 to a representative from the BetheMatch organization; which funds research and testing of bone marrow for blood cancers.  This money was raised through a combination of bucket sales and through our half-day staff luncheons. Grade three, which achieved the greatest number of contributors, won the privilege to sit in the balcony for this assembly.

Go Beyond Series

(Nov. 15, 2013) The Elementary School Go Beyond series continues to flourish, with course offerings from families providing the opportunity for book group discussions, poetry writing, and back by popular demand, a newspaper club, sponsored by Ms. Maria Qualtere (elementary teaching assistant).  Each activity has allowed students in grade levels other than fifth grade to play an active leadership role in our school community.  Students are excited to participate, and especially await the release of a final product.

If you would like to learn more about the program and feel that you could help us out with ideas or participation, please fill out the interest form and return it to Mr. Reardon.  To download the form, click here.
